Weekly Report 1/2/2013

Just a quick check in everyone,

School has been going well.  I'm very proud of my children.  They have jumped in to their work and are handling the workload with maturity.  We've finished our first 3 weeks and guess what?  We're on schedule! So today, a reward.  Our homeschool group is visiting Scienceworks  this afternoon, and we're going too.  After their first violin lesson of the year that is.
Then tomorrow, another reward!  Tomorrow our homeschool group is having it's first official catch up day at   Point Cook Homestead where the kids can play and the mums can drink coffee - the lifeblood of a successful homeschool!

So, I wanted to post about Winter Rose's reading.  In an earlier post I talked about reading Classics in the Classroom, and how WR would be reading more classics this year - along with the rest of us.
Currently she's reading Alice in Wonderland.  She is loving it, in fact, she chose it for her next assigned reading book, then keeps secreting it away in her room to continue reading after 'reading time' finished!

I am very pleased by this, I loved this book as a child.  My parents bought me a special, limited edition copy that is still a prized possession.  We have 3 hard copies of this book in the house, as well as an audio copy, and my children enjoy the Disney movie.  I fear I may become like Mel Gibson's character in Conspiracy Theory - compelled to buy a copy every time I see one and look for a copy to buy when I don't!
My husband even mentioned the other day that we should consider the name Alice if we ever are blessed with another daughter!

Before she began Alice, WR read Pinocchio.

Not this copy, but isn't it beautiful?!
So I'd say, our reading plan for 2013 is going splendidly!  I'll update on Winter Savoury's reading another time!
