Time for a books update.
I've read a few recently, to get me back on track I decided on a short read 'The Importance of Being Earnest' by Oscar Wilde. This is the first time I've read anything by Wilde, and it was hilarious. Cleverly written, neat story (both neat=great and neat=tidy), fun likeable characters. Some great quotes which I recognised from general pop-culture. I'll have to watch the movie I think, here's a scene:
Next, I read 'The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I was surprised by this book, while I generally enjoy mysteries I thought after all the modern remakes (particularly film/TV incarnations) that there would be nothing new here, and that it would have difficulty standing on it's own. I was wrong. It was fascinating, actually. I can't say that any screen adaptation that I have seen has quite done Mr Holmes justice. The book is a series of his adventures, some of them quite quaint, some deadly serious. Some end in a thrilling and fulfilling way, some end in surprising and premature ways, some end with loose ends.
Lastly I read a book that I found for my daughter called 'A Certain Music' by Celeste Waters. This is a lovely little book, a story set in Vienna in 1821 about a lonely young girl who by chance meets Beethoven. This book has some truly beautiful, emotional scenes and a very sweet ending. I really enjoyed this book, and have passed it along to my daughter. Here is Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata - referenced in the book... a stunning piece of music. If you have 6 minutes I highly recommend a listen.
That's it so far, I'm not sure what will come next yet...
